I’m coming to you late because it’s been a week. I mean, it’s 2020, so every week is a week, but this one has been…. a lot.

On Sunday it was our 11th wedding anniversary, which means it was one year since our big wild anniversary party (and huge dinner party after party). I remain so glad that we did that, after so much trauma and death. I’m extra glad now, because looking at the pictures I wonder how long it will be since I am able to see some of those family and loved ones again. This year we took our kids and our Gd kids to the river (because really what else could we do?) and generally tried to make the best of it.

On the minus side, one week ago exactly, we were told that the Modern Orthodox Jewish Day School where we had applied to, “couldn’t create a safe space” for our gender fluid child. They ended the application process and refunded our money, because our kid was born who he is. It was heart breaking, angering, I haven’t stopped crying on and off… and I felt like it was my obligation to speak out. It’s been a miserable week, but yesterday two articles were published on it, one in the JTA and one in the J. They’re fair and well reported (though the school and rabbinical advisor are less than forthright about what happened), but I’m proud we did the work and spoke out, as painful as it was.

And with that I feel like I need to sleep for a few days.

But it’s 2020, so I know that I’m not the only one who had a hard week, so here is your open thread!
